Don't let tooth pain disrupt your life. We can help.
Why is a root canal necessary?
If you're experiencing persistent tooth pain or have been diagnosed with a dental abscess, you may need a root canal to restore your oral health.A root canal treats infection or inflammation in the pulp, which is the soft tissue inside your tooth. When the pulp becomes damaged due to deep decay, cracks, or trauma, bacteria can enter and cause a painful infection. Without timely treatment, the infection can spread and lead to tooth loss. At Peninsula Center of Cosmetic Dentistry, our skilled doctors use advanced techniques to provide gentle, effective root canal therapy. We'll eliminate the infection, relieve your pain, and get you back to enjoying your smile.

The Root Canal Process
Consultation
The first step is a comprehensive exam and consultation. Using digital x-rays and 3D scans, the doctor will assess your tooth and determine if a root canal is the best course of treatment. We'll discuss the procedure in detail and answer any questions you may have.
Root Canal Therapy
After ensuring your complete comfort with anesthesia and sedation, the doctor will create a small opening in the tooth to access the infected pulp. Using special instruments, the damaged tissue is carefully removed and the root canals are disinfected. The canals are then sealed with a biocompatible material to prevent future infection.
Restoring Your Tooth
In most cases, a dental crown is placed to strengthen and protect the tooth after root canal therapy. We offer CEREC same-day crowns, allowing us to complete the entire procedure in a single visit. The crown is custom-made to match your natural teeth for a seamless, beautiful result.
Recovery & Aftercare
You may experience some mild soreness for a few days after your root canal, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication. We'll provide you with detailed instructions for caring for your restored tooth. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities the same day. With proper oral hygiene and regular checkups, your treated tooth can last a lifetime.

There are many reasons for needing a root canal or extraction. If you are suffering from periodontal disease that has badly infected one or more teeth, an extraction best addresses the issue. Furthermore, if a tooth is badly damaged and cannot be restored or you are suffering from pain even after a filling, crown, or root canal, an extraction may be needed and an implant placed as a replacement.Patients with a deep cavity or issues from a previous filling are candidates for a root canal. The root canal procedure is a much more conservative treatment. It is performed by dentists to clean and restore an infected tooth. Root canals are great options for saving teeth.
You don’t always need a crown after a root canal. Sometimes it can be sealed with a filling, which is determined by your dentist. If more than half of the tooth is gone, a crown should be placed to restore the tooth’s structural integrity.
