Same-Day Crowns

Our revolutionary CERECCAD/CAM technology allows our cosmetic dentists to create beautiful new crowns and onlays in just a single visit! No more temporary crowns or messy impressions! These bonded restorations contain no metal and provide ultimate strength, beauty, and longevity for your back teeth. Custom-made by the doctor to precisely fit individual teeth, crowns and onlays can be used to replace old porcelain or gold crowns, unsightly metal fillings, and any back tooth in need of repair. They can last for decades, and provide structure and safety for your teeth.

Dental Implants Available

If you're missing a tooth, we can combine a dental crown with a dental implant to create a complete, natural-looking replacement. Our experienced team will guide you through the implant process, ensuring optimal results.

Dental Bridges

A fixed bridge is an excellent solution for replacing missing teeth and preventing the consequences of tooth loss. By utilizing your existing tooth structure, a dental bridge can support and enhance your oral health. Without a bridge, you may experience bone loss, shifting teeth, and an increased risk of dental problems. While not always necessary, if your specific case requires a bridge, we will discuss all options with you to ensure the best possible outcome for your smile.

The Dental Crown Process

Initial Consultation

A restored smile begins with a comprehensive consultation. During this visit, our experienced team will discuss your dental needs, concerns, and goals. We'll carefully examine your teeth and gums, take any necessary X-rays or impressions, and assess the extent of any damage or decay. This in-depth evaluation allows us to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique situation.

Customized Treatment Plan

Once we've determined that a dental crown is the best solution for you, we'll prepare your tooth for the restoration. This involves removing any decayed or damaged tissue and shaping the tooth to ensure a proper fit for the crown. We'll then take precise impressions of your tooth, which will be used to create your custom crown. If needed, we'll place a temporary crown to protect your tooth while your permanent restoration is being crafted.

Fabrication

Using the impressions taken during your preparation appointment, our skilled technicians will craft your custom crown. We use only the highest quality materials, such as porcelain, ceramic, or zirconia, to ensure a durable, natural-looking result. Your crown will be designed to match the color, shape, and size of your surrounding teeth, blending seamlessly with your smile.

Placement

When your custom crown is ready, which typically takes about an hour, we’ll take you back for a final placement. We'll carefully check the fit, comfort, and appearance of your new restoration. Any necessary adjustments will be made to ensure a comfortable fit. Once you and our team are satisfied with the result, we'll permanently cement your crown in place, restoring your tooth's strength, function, and beauty.

FAQs

How long do dental crowns last?

With proper care and maintenance, dental crowns can last 10 to 15 years or more. The longevity of your crown depends on factors such as your oral hygiene habits, diet, and the location of the crowned tooth. Regular dental check-ups and a good home care routine can help extend the life of your restoration.

Does Getting a Crown Hurt?

Getting a crown is not a painful process. The atmosphere at our practice is geared toward patient comfort and direct communication, and our team keeps you informed of your crown procedure every step of the way. While we do need to remove enamel from the damaged tooth to properly place your crown, this is done after providing you with a local anesthetic. This prevents you from feeling any discomfort during the process.

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge, also known as a tooth bridge, is a dental restoration that is affixed to the jaw using your own teeth, as well as anchoring dental crowns. It works like the name suggests; as a bridge to reconnect gaps in your smile! Bridges replace one or more missing teeth and provide security and safety for the wearer. A fixed dental bridge is made up of two dental crowns on each end with one or more false teeth in between. The crowns will be cemented (fixed) to the two healthy anchor teeth on each side, thus bridging the gap left by missing teeth. At Peninsula Center of Cosmetic Dentistry, serving Los Altos, Palo Alto, Redwood City, and beyond, we specialize in placing dental bridges and we use high-quality materials to help our restorations, and your smile, last a long time!

How Is CEREC® Different?

In a traditional crown procedure, the dentist takes a mold, grinds down the tooth, and prepares it for a crown. The patient returns home with a cap and the mold is sent to a lab, where a technician carves a crown. When the patient returns, the temporary tooth is removed and the crown seated. It’s a double dose of trips to the dentist! With a Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or a CEREC® crown procedure, a 3D digital photograph of the tooth is taken, and we use a state-of-the-art computer program to draw the shape of the crown. Your new crown is carved out of a block of porcelain right here in our office! With the help of a three-dimensional, diamond-tipped miller, we seat the crown over a period of just ninety minutes! A CEREC® crown helps reduce pain and sensitivity as well as bacterial leakage that commonly occurs with traditional, temporary caps.

Do Crowns Have Other Uses?

Crowns are commonly used to treat cracked or broken teeth, but this is not their only use. Crowns can treat teeth affected by decay when a regular filling is not enough. A crown can protect a tooth following a root canal, or even be used for cosmetic reasons. Along with improving the appearance of cracked or broken teeth, they can improve the look of teeth that are small or misshapen. They can even anchor a dental bridge into place, which provides additional cosmetic and aesthetic consistency to your smile and boosts your confidence.

Why is a Tooth Bridge Needed?

You might be wondering why a fixed bridge helpful. How can it benefit your overall health? The answer is simple: a fixed bridge takes advantage of the natural tooth structure the patient has left to enhance and support what’s already there. This is why we often recommend dental bridges; it’s a compliment! It means your mouth already has the structure it needs to support its own healing! All we need to do is give it a nudge with a dental bridge. Without the extra support afforded by bridges, your jaw could lose bone mass, your remaining teeth could shift around, and you could be at risk of a myriad of dental problems. Dental bridges are not always necessary, but if your specific case requires it, we will sit down with you to review all options.

Patient Testimonials

You say it best.

I came to PCCD after doing extensive research online. I had old crowns on my front teeth, old amalgam fillings on my molars that have been worn down. I was also never comfortable with my smile. I’ve always had a dental phobia since childhood and have avoided seeing a dentist… They listened to all my concerns and issues. They presented different options and reviewed them with me. I ended up doing a full mouth reconstruction and I am very happy with the results. It was the best decision I ever made.

Phenomenal experience. I look for a dentist who not only has experience but the highest quality of skill and care. It’s not just about quality, though, I also look for someone who has an excellent reputation. Doctors who have the skill-set as well as attention to detail. It is important to me to have  the ability to understand my needs and desired outcome. I really do appreciate Dr. Field being a premier leader in cosmetic dentistry. Impressive.

I can’t wait to see the models of my teeth not to mention, my new smile! I even brought my kid with me, too! Now that is incredible!  Thank you!

In a word.... AWESOME! I lost a front crown the night before calling Dental Arts of Mountain View. The next day, only hours later, I had a new crown! Dr. Oh and his staff, Susie, Haley, Margorie and Beatrice were truly amazing. The lobby and offices are gorgeous and provides a tranquil environment with massage chairs during procedures. Yes, this dental office is second to none. I did extensive research by googling the "best cosmetic and general dentistry." Dental Arts was at the top of the list. A well deserved reputation that I drove an hour and half to confirm.  The cost was unbelievable affordable.  Great value and results that left a very big Smile on my face! Thank you very much Dental Arts you are the BEST!

I have never liked the look of my teeth. The spaces between my teeth have always bothered me. I found PCCD while doing research on the internet and went to him to find out what my options were. He gave me new porcelain veneers and closed the spaces between my teeth. Now, I feel more confident about my smile.

Because I am on camera everyday, my smile is so important. PCCD’s dentists and wonderful staff made it beautiful, white and healthy. And the best part – no pain and no anxiety. Going to PCCD was a pleasant experience. Did you ever think you would hear that about going to a dentist? I would recommend PCCD to anyone.

Such a lovely place for me and my teeth! The staff is always so friendly and welcoming, they always remember me and ask about my family, the whole facility is immaculate, and while they recommend options they never try to push extra services on me. The cost is competitive for Silicon Valley and they accept insurance and flex spending accounts so I waltz right out the door with no hassle! Happy teeth and BEE!

Excellent and professional care for replacement of two crowns by Dr. Van and his able assistant, Lo. Clear explanations as he proceeded, Dr. Van's manner was warm, reassuring and expert. I am squeamish about dental care, and they made me feel so safe, calm and reassured.  I am happy to recommend the entire office.

Face it, nobody likes going to the dentist. I get that. But I actually look forward to my dentist visits because of the people! Everyone here is so nice and non-judgmental it's been my pleasure to go here for going on 5 years now! They also know what they're doing, which hasn't been my experience in the past. I am consistently confident that they will take care of my mouth when I go here!

I had my first visit with Dr. Indah at Dental Arts of Mountain View today. It was for a TMJ consult. It was by far and away one of the most thorough exams and consultation I've ever had. Amayra, her assistant, was professional, kind and a very warm person. Dr. Indah was also very professional, informative and kind. I am very happy with this office and my first visit was excellent!
